An Introduction To Out Of Body Experiences

The experiences that are possible in the astral dimension – which is a non-physical area of reality existing alongside ours – seem to be infinite. You may imagine it to be similar to one of those very lucid dreams that happen from time to time.

When astral projecting, many if not most people feel as though they are a point or sphere of energy that hover in whatever environment they find themselves in. They are not subject to physical laws such as gravity and everything around them appears vividly real and alive. This applies to time as well which is experienced in an altered manner.

Naturally, there are many factors that influence these experiences which won’t be perceived and lived out in the same way by everyone. In most cases, however, it is a startlingly vibrant and altering happening.

When wanting to induce an out of body experience, there are a few preliminary steps. It goes without saying that you need to choose a time and place where you will be comfortable and not subject to distractions. A good time to consider is early in the morning which is usually a far more potent time than the evening to bring about an obe. Roughly, this is because the chemicals in the brain are at a most advantageous point in their daily sequence in relation to the out of body state.

When you are ready to start, you must allow your mind and body to relax deeply without diminishing your psychological alertness and without going to sleep. You will come to what is called the ‘theta’ brainwave mode which means the brain’s frequency is slow and calm. It is similar to a meditative state. How long it takes to get to this point will vary from person to person and may require extensive practice.

There are different ways to help you stay concentrated as you work through any mental chatter. Lighting a candle and focusing on the flame or choosing whatever object to channel your attention can do the trick. During this time, begin to breathe deeply but effortlessly. Visualize and imagine what an astral voyage may be like. Do this lightly.

You will know you have reached the sleep paralysis state because your body will feel much heavier and you may even experience what is called ’sleep paralysis’ – a normal occurrence when your brain believes that your body has fallen asleep.

From here, you can perform any exit technique and visualization you wish to have the separation between the physical and ethereal bodies occur. One such technique has you imagining there is an invisible rope hanging from your ceiling. Without moving your physical body at all, you need to mentally coax your energetic body to grab the rope and climb it hand by hand. The feeling is what is important here.

The transition out of the body may happen quickly or not. What is important is to execute the exit method at the right time when you are deep into the theta state – otherwise you may only end up moving the physical body and have to begin over as your trance state will be broken.
