Funeral Services And Practices Vary From Culture To Culture

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Funeral services are ceremonies that many cultures of the world hold to celebrate the life of a loved one that has been lost to death. Customs, rituals, and prayers that are attached to the honoring of the dead vary from land to land. Many create monuments, memorials, or shrines to those that have been taken by death.

One such practice common in the United States and Canada is that a clergyman is called on to officiate at the funeral ceremony. He often gives a sermon involving comforting passages from religious texts, prayers, and speaks of the deceased and their life and accomplishments. Once that part of the ritual has been completed then there may be a procession out to the grave site where a shorter ceremony takes place.

The New Orleans Jazz Funeral is a practice that seems to be unique to a singular region of the United States. There is a procession that originates at site where the memorial service has taken place and terminates at the grave site. The people that make up that procession are the friends and relatives of the deceased and a jazz band. That band plays dirges that are somber and sorrowful. Once the ceremony at the burial site has concluded then the procession continues to a gathering place. The music that is played at that stage is intended to celebrate the life of the decedent and as a result is lively. The participants in the procession then wave their hats and umbrellas while they dance to tunes being played.

Yet another practice is one that suits the preferences of those who are environmentally conscious. It is called a green funeral. This allows those that have concerns about how traditional burial practices impact the environment can opt to have their remains buried in a way more in line with their beliefs. For example they may choose to be buried in a shroud or coffin that is biodegradable. Their chosen burial place may be in a parkland where they have a tree planted on their grave as a memorial.

A few Funeral homes and/or chapels may be equipped to offer the option of a funeral and a visitation that can be viewed online. Friends, relatives, and other who for one reason or another would have been unable to attend can do so by means of a computer with a web cam that is connected to the internet. Thus those that have been left behind can stay connected to those that would support them regardless of circumstance, distance, or weather.

How the body is finally interred is as varied as the funerary practices. For example there are many cultures that place the remains in a burial plot, family crypt, or tomb. In other areas underground burial is nearly impossible due to the fact that the level of the ground water is too high. Thus any remains must be placed in a tomb that is above the ground. The ones that have the grandest appearance are called mausoleums and belong to families of wealth and prominence.

A burial at sea has often been performed when an individual has died aboard a naval ship of a seafaring country. The remains are wrapped and weighed to ensure it sinks into the ocean when it is dropped overboard. In many religions special services were created in order to cover this kind of occurrence.

Funeral services and their associated practices in the would are varied. In point of fact the kinds of rituals that are practiced are as varied as there are peoples, cultures, and countries on the earth. Thus if a memorial for one who is loved can have any form desired.

Losing a loved one is difficult; it is a time of mourning and having to plan a funeral is emotionally staining. Though, with the appropriate resources this pain can be eased a little allowing for families and friends to come together in this time of pain.

Pray To God On Behalf Of Others

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Each and every time we go to church or worship, it seems, we are given a fresh list of men and women to pray for. The majority of of them are ill, several have lost careers, and some are having other troubles. Precisely what they all have in common, though, is that they have either asked for prayer or someone recognized that they needed it.

While it is easy to pray for those who are hurting or sick when we are in church, being led by someone else, it is more difficult to remember to pray for these same people when we go home.

Intercessory prayer, prayer on behalf of others, is an important part of a Christian’s prayer life. The Bible commands us to pray for others, including our enemies. When we pray for others, we are able to get our minds off ourselves and have compassion for someone else. In addition, letting someone know you are praying for them is a powerful boost to them. Even former president George W. Bush was lifted up by the prayers of millions of Americans and stated that it was something that sustained him.

We can’t always understand the end result of our praying when we pray to God on behalf of others. Occasionally, we get to see the strength of prayer in action when someone close to us is healed or finds a job but often, we will never know the outcome. While that can be disheartening, it is still essential to pray for others. When feasible, let them know you are praying for them simply because this can improve the spirits of somebody who is actually hurting or sick. It lets them recognize that people care. Everyone needs encouragement and by dropping someone a greeting card and letting them know we are praying for them, we can offer them hope and reassurance.

Have you ever considered keeping a prayer diary? This is a powerful testimony to the power of prayer and it can also function as a reminder to pray for someone we may not have prayed for in a while.

This can also function as personal support as we witness prayer after prayer being answered. Just writing down who you are praying for can serve as a reminder to drop a card in the mail or give them a call to see how they are doing. Prayer is powerful and praying for others is a necessary and powerful way to use our prayer time.

“Businesses and charities are actually the same thing. Someone started the organisation with the passion to do something-to make a difference.”

“The moment we start giving out of guilt, we appreciate charities far less.”

On having more or having less

“The moment we perceive someone as ‘poor’, our perception creates the poor feeling in the other person.”

Is Lucifer Bugging You In Your Life?

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Lucifer, the Devil, Beelzebub, and many other names that refer to the same entity in our lives. There are many more, but let’s look a bit at his story and why he was banished from Heaven. The name itself means “morning star”, or even “star of the morning”.

Satan is a person who will tempt you in many ways. Just like the snake he took the form of in the Garden of Eden and tempted Adam and Eve to eat that apple. Up until that moment we would have been beings that did not commit sins. But unfortunately it is something that everyone does.

His existence is not the same as you and I on this world, but more the head of hell. Where if you commit many sins and do not repent you will go to upon dying. The Church teaches that you will need to allow Jesus and God into your life as repentance. It’s not a very difficult process and can be quickly done.

Keep in mind that when you do repent, it has to be said with meaning. Simply asking without your heart into it will not work. Ask a friend who is religious to help you out with this process. They will be able to help you most of the time.

Seek out a pastor, or priest in your religion, or the one you think will suit you. They will be able to lead you down the road of finding that forgiveness. Other ways that you can block Lucifer from your life is to read the bible. Learning certain verses that can help you when you’re feeling down.

If you’re from any religion the devil is real, not in form, but in many forms. Not someone that you can always easily avoid either. Praying on those times when you are down and in need. Hoping that you will give into whatever temptation he has placed in front of you.
